Core Diagnostic Requirements

  • Persistent pattern of inattention and/or hyperactivity-impulsivity that interferes with functioning or development
  • Several symptoms present before age 12 years
  • Several symptoms present in two or more settings (e.g., home, school, work)
  • Clear evidence of interference with social, academic, or occupational functioning
  • Symptoms not better explained by another mental disorder

Required Symptom Duration

Symptoms must have been present for at least 6 months to a degree that is inconsistent with developmental level and negatively impacts social and academic/occupational activities.
